Privateer: The Reckoning MOD Beta 2.4 Feedback

Here you can find news, get help and comment about the Privateer / Wing Commander Total Conversion called ?Privateer: The Reckoning? and accompanying Mods

Post Mon Apr 26, 2004 8:25 am

GreyViper:
I downloaded the mod, and it crashes every time I try to run FL.
Says it can't find an "arch" file.
But doing a side-by-side comparison of the files from the download, and my original files, there is no difference!

Hmmm...
I just noticed something wierd...
The version I downloaded is 2kb larger than the one I uploaded!!!
I've checked every file, and they're all the same size!

DELETE IT!!!
I suspect a virus!

It says: "FLMM has determined that "Privateer : The Reckoning mod Beta v 2.4 won't properly activate

This was only the test run, so no files were changed(besides being decommpressed) Look in the log for details."

Post Mon Apr 26, 2004 11:07 am

Well both versions work for me, maybe fresh start will help and last version of FLMM.
As for Virus not sure I have had some experience with them and now have maxed virus protection and it shows the file is/was clean.
Try this its a online virus scan, verry good one to.

Ps. Just hope that any trojans wont show up. I remember the time I was locked out from my own computer and I was the admin. I would have laughed at the absurd situation if the situation wasnt so serious. One more thing some viruses make your machine and net work at snail pace.
Oh yeah dont download any .exe files from Kazaa!(or use it there are better ones)

Hi, after reading the posts here i just updated my ant-virus programm and let it test the file.
It came out as totally virus-free.

And i also got the problem with the way from New York to Texas, but my game already crashes as soon as i try to take the trade-lane to the Jumpgate.

After I got some sleep, I deleted the version I downloaded, but FL still wouldn't start up.
I've run 3 different anti-virus programs, and they all claim my computer is clean.
I had to completely uninstall FL, and reinstall it.
I had the same thing happened a few days ago when Chemus sent me some files.
Either there's a virus that can't be detected, or there's a virus called WindowsXP!!!
I've never had as many problems in the last 22 years that I've been playing with computers, as I have had in the last month or so that I've had this G.D. XP machine!
It's a shame murder is illegal...

<Rant semi-over>

I just tried, again, to upload the Ship Pack.
(I sent it to Eraser & Baked Potato, maybe one of them will get it this time?)

I think I'm gonna take a few days off, and see if I can replace XP with an OS that actually works!

Sounds absolutely crazy. So many people are cranking out dozens of mods.. but for some reason, this one remains most problematic.

can you get any help from those who did total conversions like the Starwars FREE WORLDS mod?

download 2.4 .. couldnt even start the game , didnt even get to the menu

deactivated 2.4 .. the game still wouldnt load , reinstalled FL game works , reactivated 2.3 plus patch (i dumped the patch in tot he 2.3 folder) it loads fine

im using XP Pro , tweaked to how i like it , 90% of processors deactivated , surplus looks gone

redownloading 2.4 now to see if its that file or something else

never had half the crashes people talked baout in 2.3 either , got to texas and back in several ships no problem at all , never ever had a ctd either , just the bugs i reported , ie the gunboat ,t he invisible wrecks and the mollys stuff

@ Warzog :
If ya wanna play Priv on ya XP box try using VmWare. To simulate a PC on you're PC no-less. And install Windoze ME or a similar unstable OS on it and you should be fine. I used to when I was researching the Systems way back in the begining of all of this . It works but it plays havoc with your network interfaces :S.

About the fact flmm says its uncopatible...forget it, i activated all three (original, update and shippack), and flmm said only one could be used without probs, still no probs in the game though =)

And i think if u say the orion is an 'almost' gunship, it should have the ability to equip orion-only weaps (make some extra strong, but make them use extreme energy) and give it lotsa armour and 2 shield bays is a good idea, or let it use extra strong shields, this way u dont need to add extra guns, same counts for the broadsword, AND u can leave the turning as it is, otherwise it would be way to strong...

As I've been unable to duplicate the crashes that people are encountering, I need some help to isolate the problem(s):

Several little ideas:
1) Try deleting the DLL's in the EXE folder-see if that helps.
2) Try deleting the Constants.ini & Initialworld.ini in the DATA folder.
3) If those don't help, try deleting the Scipt.xml file in the main folder.
4) And as a last ditch effort-delete the mission's folder-doing so will lock you into the normal SP missions.

Queries:
1) I've been running FL in straight XP mode-is anyone running it in an emulation mode?
2) I've been running FL without an update, or sdk v1.3 installed, is anyone?
3) What system(s) have you been to before the crash?
4) What base(s) have you been to before the crash?
5) What ship(s) have you owned prior to the crash?
6) What were you doing before the crash?
IE: Trading, Fighting, Salvage, Random Missions, Exploring, etcetera?
7) Commodities-getting reports of wierd pricing. I need to know what commodity, where you bought it, what systems you went through, and where the odd price was.
8) How long were you playing (non-stop) prior to the crash?

Also, if at all possible, can you email a copy of the FLspew.txt file from the game that crashed?
(FL creates a new FLspew.txt file each time you run FL. Even if you don't start a new game, or load a saved game.)
FLspew.txt is the file that gets emailed to MS if FL crashes, and it holds important information that can help to determine why this mod crashed on you.

In Windows 98, it'll be in the:
c:\Windows\Local Settings\Application\Microsoft\Freelancer folder.
In WindowsXP, it'll be in the:
c:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application\Freelancer folder.

I'm not sure where it'll be in WindowsME, or Windows 2000.
Thanx!

Part of the reason that this mod is having problems is that we're attempting to do things that haven't been done.
That, alone, is causing problems, and it makes asking for help kinda useless.

The one that may be the root of our problems may be the placement of the missiles on the torpedo hardpoints.
If it is, then, all of the ships would have to be modified, and the code, rewritten.

Post Tue Apr 27, 2004 10:32 am

Aw that sucks.- rewritten yet again!

I guess once the game is figured out and, if everyone kept good records.. freelancer could be used as a template for a whole slew of Privateer expansion packs after the privateer mod with gemini is successfully done!

Keep going BUDDAY!

Post Tue Apr 27, 2004 11:25 am

Well, while it sounds daunting, I've gotten rewriting down to an art form.
I've got cd's, folders, and a workbook, on every part of the mod.
Along with backups of almost every version I've done, and every file I've used.
I can do a complete rewrite in a couple of hours.
The DLL's, on the other hand, take a day, or two, to write.

AH HA!!! I found the log error
if you encounter the "Missing (insert some crap here) in (M##.ini) open your .cab (on the disk in XP looks like a filing cabanet) and find the missing ini and copy it over had to do this for mission 13.
Also if you get a log error (in FLMM) the log its talking about is right below your mod list.

Also whats wrong with buffalo? i dock and launch just fine (X2 is a different story)
