X 1800 XT vapourware ?!

Title is somewhat stolen from this article . I had my fun with the vapourware-sentence in it.
And the card looks - eehrm - interesting

I saw some benchmarks for the R520 not long ago, and it doesn't exactly trounce the opposition. Hopefully when they create some proper drivers...

poor old Ati. I asked the rep a few weeks ago if they were going to come up with anything, and while she talked a good talk, she didn't act very convincingly. Nvidia are still top of the tree. All ATi can do is rework the Radeon.

"Rework the Radeon"? Pah, they've been ridin' that old horse for the last three years. It's too bad that they are stuck in 2002, because ATI were leading the industry once *shakes head sadly*.

Esquilax.. Those benchmarks were fake. The dude Sander from hardwareanalysis.com just posted the scores of an OC'd X850XT PE because he didn't get invited to the real X1800 series ATi media unveiling.

I didn't get invited either. Carly Cheshire and I will be having words!

D34N - I had a feeling that they were, especially since I did not think that HA would really break an NDA .

I still think that it is the 90nm form factor. Every chip maker that moved to 90nm had huge teething problems. I believe that the 7800 rolled out because it ISN'T on a 90nm die.

Well part of the problem with the 90nm process are heat issues, but they should be able to solve that conclusively (eventually).

There are new runours almost every day about the R520. Newest one: it seems that there will be no AGP-version.
Not confirmed. But difficult to understand because no graphics-card has even reached the technical (bandwidth-)limits of 8xAGP.

The current joke has been whether it is Cross Fire or the R520 that has more smoke.

But I also hear that those who are blessed with dual SLI GeForce boards have a problem when they try to watch ordinary video... that it is rather crappy unless they disable one of the boards to switch to single board video feed.

A new driver to fix it is due but it hasn't come out yet.

Yes, That a big issue for me.. I only saved up enough money for a X1800XT and a Razor mouse.. not enough to buy a new motherboard, CPU AND a X1800XT.
